Gorillas, Flink, Grovy - the fast food delivery business is booming. Thanks to Drop this option is now also available to e-commerce retailers. The Berlin start-up delivers orders from online stores to end consumers within three hours - "flexible, sustainable and fast". In the latest episode of the fynax podcasts "Thanks for Shopping"Dropp founder Nicolas Pörschke talks to fynax directors Nadja Müller and Saravanan Sundaram about the business model, the history of the young company and its plans for the future.
Nicolas Pörschke experienced first-hand the need for a smart logistics solution for all brands and online retailers that do not sell their products via Amazon during the long lockdown months in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. After all, customers are used to fast delivery speeds these days. However, smaller online stores with their own distribution channels are often unable to offer this at the desired speed. For Pörschke, who has been passionate about logistics since childhood and has many years of professional experience in this field, this was reason enough to create a same-day delivery solution. Dropp was born.
The start-up acts as a logistics service provider that handles order and delivery processing for online stores. Dropp delivers orders from online retailers to end customers flexibly and sustainably in cargo bikes - the gorillas of the shopping world, so to speak. Thanks to smart technological solutions, customers can not only expect a delivery time of less than three hours, but can even specify a two-hour slot for the delivery of the ordered goods. This can also be postponed up to ten minutes before the start of the delivery window. After all, flexibility is a USP (Unique Selling Point) of the company, emphasizes Pörschke.
Dropp is also very keen to keep its finger on the pulse and be close to the reality of life for customers in Berlin's trendy districts. The start-up delivers between 10 a.m. and 11 p.m., including accepting returns. To be as sustainable as possible, Dropp not only offsets CO2 emissions, but also limits them wherever possible. In particular, the reduction of unnecessary packaging material and the use of e-cargo bikes set standards here.
In a very short space of time, the company has gone from a living room with five pilot customers to a logistics service provider with a warehouse and a delivery capacity of up to 700,000 people. In the first half of 2022, the company plans to expand from the capital to six to eight other major German cities, he tells Nadja Müller and Saravanan Sundaram in the podcast. Pörschke will continue to work on his vision with dedication: "I love the complexity of logistics and I love developing good solutions" - a passion for logistics.
How the short delivery time can be realized, what the cooperation with online retailers looks like in concrete terms and what long-term vision Pörschke is pursuing for his start-up can be found in the complete sequence "Thanks for Shopping".
