LIVEBUY founder Alex von Harsdorf on the fynax podcast "Thanks for Shopping!"
"In March/April 2020, when everyone flocked to the supermarkets and thought it was over, we thought to ourselves: this is the perfect time to start a new company." LIVEBUY Co-Founder Alex von Harsdorf still has to smile when he thinks about founding the company in the middle of the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic. In the new episode of the fynax podcast "Thanks for Shopping", he talks to the two fynax managers Nadja Müller and Saravanan Sundaram about the idea of establishing live shopping in Germany and its rapid development to date.
The two founders of LIVEBUY, Alex von Harsdorf and Armin Gattung, did not have to invent live video shopping. In Asia, for example, the concept is already well established. In Europe, however, it still seems rather exotic when retailers and brands present products that are "shopable" in real time via live stream on their own homepage. Alex von Harsdorf calls the principle "bringing teleshopping to the smartphone" with a wink, as teleshopping, which now seems somewhat antiquated, is of course not directly the model for the live shopping trend.
Alex von Harsdorf himself comes from a completely different background, which may not sound like e-commerce at all. Born in Berlin, he began by studying mechanical engineering, and later gained success, experience and star encounters as a talent scout in the music industry. However, as he explains in the podcast, he was always driven by the urge to establish something new that would reach millions. Still stuck in the music business, he tries out things to make concert ticket sales more exciting, as a "social shopping experience". In 2019, he met his current co-founder Armin Gattung. Both immediately fired up their creativity to found a company and delved deeper into the world of e-commerce.
The rest, as the saying goes, is history. And one that is closely interwoven with world history. At the end of 2019, the two discovered US superstar Kim Kardashian selling lipstick in a livestream in China. The concept fascinated them both - they decided to found LIVEBUY and "set everything to zero at the beginning of a pandemic", as Alex von Harsdorf reflects.
But their success proves them right. With the idea of transforming online shopping from a single-player mode to a social shopping event, turning the "dead zone web store" into a world of experience through interactive live shopping experiences, they have hit a nerve. They now cooperate with large companies such as Douglas and Tchibo as well as stars and influencers who present live shopping. And now? For Alex von Harsdorf, the goal would be achieved if LIVEBUY and "live buying" were to become synonymous. In any case, a start has been made.
The podcast "Thanks for Shopping" provides everything you need to know about the exciting business start-up and the first steps, the target group and the attractiveness of the concept for retailers and brands. It's worth a listen!
